I’m done watching the NFL: Here’s why

I have to be honest, I’m losing interest in the NFL. The games just don’t seem as exciting as they used to be. I can’t even remember the last time I watched a full game from start to finish. And it’s not just because my team (the Colts) didn’t make the playoffs this year – I’ve been feeling this way for a while now.

The season final was a perfect example:

The game was almost over, but I didn’t want to watch the end. My kid spilled a drink on the pizza, so I had to go get another one. But as I walked out of the door, I realized that I’d left my phone in the car. I debated for a second whether or not to go back for it, but decided against it. It was only the last few minutes of the game, and I really didn’t care who won.

Here are some reasons why I am losing interest in the NFL.

The first reason is that there are just too many games, and they all look the same. The teams wear similar uniforms, each has a helmet with a logo on it, and most of them have helmets that match their team colors.

I think this is a problem because the NFL wants more people to watch their games. But if you are like me, you only want to watch one or two games per week. Even my teenage kids would rather play than watch. That’s why they enjoy the youth group games at church so much.

The second reason is that there are too many commercials during each game! They take up way too much time and make it hard for me to focus on what ‘s happening on the field. I don’t mind watching a commercial or two, but when there are almost as many commercials as there are actual game minutes, it’s just too much. It feels like I’m being cheated out of my time.

The third reason is that I don’t really know who is playing in most of the games. The NFL has too many teams, and it’s hard to keep track of them all.

I can no longer support this organization. The players’ protests during the National Anthem are only one reason why I’m done watching the NFL, but they are certainly the most recent and publicized.

I understand that the players have a right to peacefully protest, but I don’t believe that this is the correct way to go about it. The NFL has an opportunity to bring people together, but instead they are choosing to divide us. Football is already one of the most popular sports in America, and these protests are only making it more difficult for people to support the league.

Another reason is all of the rule changes that have been made over the years. I feel like they are making the game too complicated. I don’t want to have to keep up with a dozen different rules – I just want to watch a football game.

Lastly, I think the players are getting paid too much money. When athletes start making millions of dollars, it just doesn’t seem as fun or exciting to watch them play anymore. It feels like they’re not playing for the love of the game, but rather just to get paid.

So those are my thoughts on why I’m losing interest in watching football games. If you have any thoughts or tips on how I can make it more enjoyable again, please leave a comment below! And if you feel this way too, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s keep the conversation going!

1. Do you think the Colts choke in big games because of a lack of talent?

2. Or do you think it’s because they’re too arrogant and don’t prepare well enough?

3. Is it coaching that’s the issue?

4. Or is it simply bad luck?

5. Do you think the Colts will ever win another Super Bowl?

A final story and I’m done:

I was so excited when my neighbor asked me to come watch the Superbowl at his house. I knew he was a big Cincinnati fan, so I was looking forward to watching the game with him. However, when the day arrived, I had to come up with a lie and tell him that I couldn’t make it. I really didn’t want to watch the game, but I knew he would be heartbroken if I didn’t show up. So instead, I decided to go ice skating. At least there is some drama to the outcome of that sport!

Imagine – me ice skating instead of watching the NFL. If that don’t make you laugh then maybe you deserve to watch this sorry excuse for a sport.

It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to the NFL. This decision has been a long time coming and it saddens me to have to make it. I’m not the only one who has been boycotting the NFL. The ratings have been declining for years and this season was no exception. Many people are choosing to watch other sports or spend their Sundays doing something else. I know that I will be much happier not having to worry about the NFL every weekend.

So, that’s it. I’m done watching the NFL. It’s been a fun ride, but it’s time to move on. Thanks for sticking with me throughout this decision and I hope you will continue to read my blog in the future.

P.S. Go Colts!
